Infamous Last Words:

Fisher Ames (1758–1808) was a congressman from Massachusetts. He was a Federalist and noted speech-maker. Ames, on his deathbed, said:

“I have peace of mind. It may arise from stupidity, but I think it is founded on a belief of the  Gospel.”

Nailed it.
