Allen (1738-1789) was a farmer; businessman; land speculator and American
Revolutionary War general, hero, and politician. At his deathbed a minister
said, “General Allen, the angels are waiting for you, as are your family in
Heaven.”
To this optimistic statement, Allen responded, “Let the useless buggers wait! And my family, too.”
